Detection and measurement
With MDT sensors, your smart home can react appropriately
Information for the KNX system
Automation only works with sensors
Building automation becomes smart when the system reacts appropriately to the current situation. When the sun is blazing, the sunshade moves down; if someone enters the hallway, the light gets brighter; if the building is cooling down, the heating is activated.
In order for this to work, the system needs to be provided with the relevant values by sensors. Then appropriate automatic reactions can be configured in the KNX system.

MDT Presence Detectors and MDT Motion Detectors
You can determine whether people are present or not with presence detectors and motion detectors. You can link actions, such as lighting in the storeroom or the comfort temperature in the living room, to presence. In this case, presence detectors are used in rooms where people spend extended periods.
The detectors have more refined detection and can therefore recognise even smaller movements, for example a person at a desk. For areas that are only used briefly (such as hallways or side rooms), motion detectors are used. They have a detection angle that prevents them from detecting small pets.

Values for your KNX system
Measuring and controlling
MDT Sensors
With KNX sensors, values are provided to your KNX installation, with which the system regulates the smart home technology. To measure the air quality in a room, a VOC sensor is installed. The measured values can either be, visually displayed as an indivator in a RGB light in the colours, red-yellow-green, in a visualisation or a direct activation of the ventilation based on a set threshold value. The humidity sensor is as equally important for ventilation. Installed in a bathroom where a higher level of humidity may occur due to the use of hot water when showering or bathing, as soon as a threshold value is exceeded the ventilation can be activated to extract humid and create a circulation of fresh air, switching off automatically as soon as the level is below the threshold value. A temperature sensor in every room is vital for the optimised regulation of the heating system. Room temperature controllers allow for an automatic regulation of the room temperature and allow for a comfortable/ pleasant manual adjustment when required.
You can comfortably control the temperature directly via a Room temperature controller/-sensor. The MDT Room Temperature Controllers have an integrated PI-controller. In corridors without motion detectors, it is advisable to use a brightness sensor that will provide light level values that in conjunction with a dimmer or a LED controller will brighten an orientation light if the level is not sufficient. An installed weather station, provides information, wind speed, the outdoor temperature, brightness values for the directions; east, south and west. A separate rain sensor provides precipitation information. These values are particularly relevant for automatically controlling the sun shading, which can be automatically adjusted to the current weather situation.
CO2 / VOC Combi Sensor
Measures the air quality in the room and controls heating and ventilation
Room Temperature Controller
With adjustment knob to control the indoor temperature
Object Controller
Automatically controls the indoor room temperature
Room temperature/ humidity sensor
Measures the room temperature and the humidity
Really smart is when the air quality in the room is measured and the heating and ventilation are automatically controlled.
Operation
Lots of functions are set up automatically in the smart home, but as the user you always have the option of controlling your system.
